Hayman Island unveils new look | Travel
THE finishing touches are being put on Hayman Island’s resort ahead of its re-opening next week.
General manager Shane Green said the island resort, which had been closed for repairs and a revamp since March 6, was on track to open next Monday.
“The major repair and rectification works to our key guest accommodation areas, activity facilities and essential infrastructure are nearing completion, following damage caused by tropical cyclones Anthony and Yasi at the beginning of this year,” Mr Green said.
“As part of the activity occurring on Hayman, acclaimed landscape designer, horticulturalist and personality Jamie Durie and his team have been replanting and rejuvenating the garden landscapes, which have long provided an incredible backdrop to the resort.
“The gardens are progressing very well and a beautiful botanic garden will soon be revealed.”
Mr Green said the resort would also unveil new restaurant concepts.
“In keeping with our culinary tradition, new restaurant concepts are being introduced in both Azure and in our new Fontaine restaurant, which is set to become Australia’s signature resort restaurant.
“Fontaine will feature indoor and outdoor dining and innovative, contemporary Australian cuisine perfectly paired with a comprehensive selection of wines from our cellar.”
The Hayman Activities Centre was also getting a makeover, with new tennis courts and indoor-outdoor recreation, sports and fitness facilities, he said.
“These are just a few of the many new and refreshed areas that await and we look forward to welcoming guests back from August.”
In February, Lloyd Donaldson, the managing director of the resort’s owner, Mulpha Australia, said the closure was a difficult decision. However, the work would cause too much disruption for guests if it remained open, he said.
Mr Donaldson said the island was retaining its workforce during the resort’s closure.
