Raceland church has two job openings
Officials with St. Mary’s Nativity Catholic Church said the church’s vacation Bible school was a success. The staff wants to thank those who participated in the Bible school and the adult and teen volunteers. Officials want to send a special thank you to Renee Becnel for all her hard work and dedication.
Meeting: Members of St. Mary’s Nativity Catholic Church’s Ladies Altar Society are scheduled to meet at 2 p.m. Friday in the church’s administration office, 3500 La. 1, Raceland. For information, call Barbara Solar at 856-5919.
Job openings: St. Mary’s Nativity Catholic Church has two job openings: one for a cemetery custodian, a part-time position to maintain all church buildings and cemetery, and a groundskeeper, a job that calls to maintain the grass-cutting duties on the church grounds, bayou side, cemetery, rectory and school.
If interested in either of these two jobs, a full job description and application is available in the church’s administration office. For the groundskeeper job, the church is accepting bids on a two-year contract.
Deadline for application or bid is Sunday.
Traveling chalice: Eldon and Mary Breaux received the traveling chalice at the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday at St. Mary’s Nativity Catholic Church.
It will remain in their home for one week as they pray for vocations.

Acadian Mass: The annual Acadian Mass to pray for people of Acadian and French heritage is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 15 at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church, 333 Twin Oaks Drive, Mathews. Bishop Sam Jacobs will celebrate the Mass. You can come dressed in your Cajun attire, including your garde soleil or old fashion sun bonnet. Following Mass there will be a reception in the back of church.
Baptisms: Gannon Paul Bourg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Bourg; and Lindsey Ann Cheramie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roddy Cheramie; were baptized recently at St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church.
New council member: Celeste George, Scott Guidry and Duane Olivia are the newest members of the St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church Pastoral Council.
Called by name: This is a vocations initiative that offers the opportunity of calling forth men who have the gifts needed for the priesthood.
