USAF Thunderbirds thrill at 2011 Vectren/Dayton Air Show

Despite the oppressive near-100 degree heat, thousands of aviation enthusiasts flocked to the Dayton International Airport grounds for the 38th annual Vectren/Dayton Air Show. While many came specifically to see the U.S. Air Force’s demonstration team, the Thunderbirds , others also came to enjoy the historically significant aircraft on static display, view the other performers, or even catch a ride on Vietnam-era Army helicopters.

Some of the show highlights included a recreation of the attack on Pearl Harbor featuring the aircraft used in the movie “ Tora! Tora! Tora! ” accompanied by an impressive pyrotechnics display for an added touch of realism. There were also skydiving demonstrations by the Red Bull Air Force and the U.S. Army’s Golden Knights. Another act sponsored by Red Bull was the incredible BO-105 aerobatic helicopter flown by pilot Chuck Aaron . Chuck is the only FAA-licensed helicopter aerobatic pilot and the extensive modifications to the BO-105, modifications that allow it to perform heart-stopping inverted loops and spins, are a closely guarded secret. Along with Chuck, pilots Sean Tucker and Melissa Pemberton, both noted aerobatic pilots, put their talents on display in an array of dizzying maneuvers that wowed the audience.

The U.S. military was also well represented at this year’s air show. An A-10 “Warthog” and an F/A-18 Super Hornet put on an impressive display of power and performance giving the onlookers a glimpse of how these aircraft are used in Iraq and Afghanistan. The crowd was also treated to the rare sight of two of the three heavy bombers flown by the U.S. Air Force together at the same time. The B-2A Spirit stealth bomber flew over the air show, displaying its unique shape and sound-dampened engines, before flying on. Its counterpart, the B-1B Lancer, a swept-wing, supersonic bomber, thundered into the sky with its four afterburning engines shaking the ground. The B-1B Lancer performed a series of high-speed flybys before following the B-2 out of the area.

The final, and most anticipated, act of the day was the Thunderbirds. The audience cheered as the demonstration team put its F-16 Falcon aircraft through a series of hair-raising maneuvers like rolling diamond formations and head-to-head flybys. The Thunderbird’s performance was overlaid with a music soundtrack as well as an announcer explaining both the maneuvers and history of the squadron. Luckily for the thousands in attendance on Saturday the weather cooperated and the sky was bright and clear throughout the entire aerial demonstration. Unfortunately a thunderstorm forced the Thunderbirds to cut their performance short on Sunday.

Engine & Specifications:- The Nissan 370Z model is available in two variants that come equipped with the same 3.7L, 3696cc, DOHC V6 engine. The Powerful engine of the car comes blessed with highly advanced CVVTCS (Continuous Variable Valve Timing Control System) and VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) technologies which makes it highly fuel efficient and enhances its performance. The engine of this car is capable of producing a peak power of 332Bhp at 7000rpm along with a peak torque of 365Nm at 5200rpm. Equipped with a range of performance boosting features, the Nissan 370Z offers a class-leading performance on-road. The addition of CVVTCS (Continuous Variable Valve Timing Control System) and VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) technologies) not only enhances the fuel economy of the engine but also delivers excellent engine power..
