Zelinda LeBoutillier, 76, of Exton, the CEO of Waterloo Gardens and the founder of a cooking school and author of a cookbook, died of cancer Friday, Oct. 7 at his home.

Known for his generous heart and philanthropic ways, she affectionately called "Mama Linda" by many employees, customers and friends.

"She was always there to help people," recalls his son, D. Roberts, known as Bobby. "When you met her, she asked all of you, and the next time she saw you, she had forgotten all about your name and your family. She just had that kind of connection with people. "

Mrs.LeBoutillier was born in Newtown Square, the only child of James and Anna Paolini of Devon, who founded Waterloo in 1942. From a small outdoor stand in Wayne, the company became a multimillion-dollar corporation, with offices in Devon and Exton, who enjoys a prestigious reputation on the main line.

She was very involved in the management of the garden center, including purchasing, hiring, and marketing, said his son. The store in Devon, she and her sister-in-law founded the Cooking School, where she gave cooking demonstrations. It ran from 1980 to 1985. She wrote a book called Cooking with fresh herbs.

Ms. LeBoutillier served on the advisory board of a magazine for the retail garden and traveled the country speaking to groups and nursery garden center marketing.

She also served on the board of the Association of Nurseries and Pennsylvania was a member of its marketing committee.

In 1951, she married Robert "Bo" LeBoutillier, who later became president and CEO of Waterloo Gardens. They met in high school, and, memorably, courted on a bicycle, pedaling with Bo and Linda perched on the handlebars.

A contributor philanthropist and community MsLeBoutillier was awarded the Harold Martin in 2007 the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce Exton. She also received the 2005 Citizen of the Year of the Berwyn-Devon Business and Professional Association.

Among the boards on which she served were those of ALS Hope Foundation, Cabrini College, Bishop Shanahan High School, and Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades. She was also president of the State Gift of Time American Family Institute and President of the West Whiteland American Heart Association.
