Metro construction activity up slightly through six months
Construction activity in metropolitan Kansas City, both residential and non-residential, was up slightly through the first half of the year compared to 2010, according to a new report.</p><p>There was $372.8 million in non-residential construction work contracted through June, up 8 percent from a year ago, and $342.8 million in non-residential work, down 3 percent, according to McGraw-Hill Construction. Total construction activity was up 2 percent.</p><p>The month of June experienced a sharp drop in non-residential construction with $36.6 million in contracts reported in the metro area, a 57 percent drop from June 2010.</p><p>Residential work was up 20 percent to $75.9 million. Total building in June was $112.5 million, down 24 percent from the same month a year ago.</p><p>McGraw-Hill Construction is a respected industry analyst and the publisher of Dodge Reports and Sweets Catalog Files.</p><p>It defines non-residential buildings as including commercial, manufacturing, educational, religious, administrative, recreational, hotel, dormitory and other buildings. Three sentenced in Dodge County bank robbery - Crime & Courts ...
Three Blackshear residents were sentenced to prison terms Wednesday in connection with a 2010 armed bank robbery in Chauncey.
Brittany Riner, 25, drove 53-year-old Noel Arnold and 25-year-old Jimmy Lee McBride from Waycross to the Chauncey Citizens Bank & Trust. About 9 a.m. Sept. 2, 2010, Arnold and McBride entered the bank and forced two employees into separate rooms, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office.
Arnold and McBride told the two employees at gunpoint to sit on the ground with their eyes closed and then robbed the bank of about $25,400, according to a news release.
Arnold was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison while Riner was sentenced to 15 years. McBride was sentenced to 11 years and three months in prison. All three defendants must serve another five years of supervised release after their prison terms are complete, and they must pay the bank restitution, according to the release.
The CB&T branch is now closed because of security concerns following the robbery, according to the U.S. Attorneys Office.
