Letters: Republican don't seem to understand concept of less government, fewer ...

What part of less government don't the Republicans understand? The creative, productive segment of our society is fed up with the government trying to micromanage every facet of our existence. This ranges anywhere from our light bulbs, what foods we can and cannot eat, the way we build our houses, how we can use the property we own, to how to provide for our health needs.

Republican Sen. Bill Ketron will sponsor the Senate version of legislation called the "Caylee Anthony Act" which makes it a felony for failing to report a missing child within 24 hours. Republican Rep. Tony Shipley will sponsor the House version. Yes, this was a tragedy, but does it merit more micromanagement legislation? When do we call enough, enough? When we have 1,000 laws on the books or 10,000? It has been proven that once you exceed a certain number of laws, people will become frustrated and begin to ignore them all. At that point we will cease being a nation of law and degenerate into anarchy and our civilized society will collapse. You can see it happening all around you already.

In a government of, for, and by the people the only authority the people can delegate to government is the authority they possess individually. I do not have the authority to tell you what light bulbs you can use, what you can and cannot eat, the way you build your house, or use your property or provide for your health needs unless it has an adverse effect on me. I especially do not have the authority to tell you to report a missing child within 24 hours or I will make you a felon.

My freedom ends where your nose begins and your freedom ends where my nose begins. If we can come to this understanding we can both concentrate on our pursuit of happiness without fearing each other. As Ron Paul would say, "Freedom brings people together.
