Linksys WES610N Wireless Entertainment Bridge Review

Do you have a bunch of home theater hardware, or even computers that don’t have Wi-Fi?  Do you not feel like dealing with the hassles of running Cat-5 through your house?  Well, you might want to look at the latest wireless bridge from Linksys, the WES10N 802.11N Wireless Entertainment Bridge.  Wireless bridges aren’t anything new and they have been around for many years helping consumers easily connect their ethernet cards to a Wi-Fi network.  But with the WES10N, Linksys set out to give consumers the ability to easily connect multiple bandwidth-hungry devices with one simple yet powerful device.

While the WES10N can be used to network a group of computers to a Wi-Fi network, its real forte is connecting entertainment devices to an 802.11n network.  Setting up the WES610N is as simple as pressing the Linksys “Wi-Fi Protected Setup”  button on the front of the device.  Within second the device picked up the 802.11n network form my new Linksys E4200 router and I was online and able to connect the bridges 4 ethernet ports to my Samsung LED TV, Xbox 360, PS3 and Samsung Blu-Ray player using ethernet to the WES610N’s 4 ports.  While I could use the Wi-Fi in some of these devices, I would be limited to 802.11g connections, and by connecting them to the Linksys Entertainment Bridge I am now able to achieve the full 32/5 mbps speeds of my internet connection.

There are many advantages to using 802.11N over 802.11G. For example, for Netflix subscribers, your movies will stream faster and require less buffering and no downgrading.  For gamers, the faster speeds lower your pings which lowers the chance of game lag.

In my home we have 2 desktop units, 3 laptops, a wireless printer, an XBOX 360 and several audio devices that are constantly connecting to the network.
